Rainy Road; Night Driving

We live on the Lakeshore Road that meanders along Lake Erie. One rainy night I was looking out the window and saw tail lights of a vehicle disappearing into the mist. I had this curious thought that I could be looking out in any year - 1950, 1930, whatever - and the scene would be the same. It was like time-traveling in my mind's eye, and it gave me an eerie feeling. I sat down to capture that frisson in a song.

Time For A Breakdown

I'm sure everyone feels low at times, and sometimes feel lower still. I wrote this at one of those junctures. Luckily for me there has always been a light to strive towards. What depression wears down love builds up again.

Norfolk Nights (Without You)

When we first moved to Norfolk County from Dundas, Ontario the deep darkness of the night and brilliant stars inspired awe. I grew up in the country but had lived in the city for a while and had forgotten. We found out later that this is one of the least light-polluted spots in the province.This is also the first song I wrote after a long hiatus from music. So, it's almost 30 years old and still one of my favourites.

Night Shift

I think anyone who has worked the midnight shift, especially in a factory, can relate to this. I certainly saw a lot of purple sun-rises to the tune of large machinery doing their thing. Of course, you don't ‘hate everyone’, but it can feel that way sometimes when you're wondering what you did to deserve this.

Lullaby of Inner Bay

The Inner Bay is the shallow body of water surrounded by Long Point, the Causeway, and Port Rowan ON. It is part of Lake Erie and full of fish. It has been a thriving commercial and sport fishing area for many years. A crying baby may have been calmed by the fisherman and/or his wife with a similar song. This after a hard day sorting tons of fish caught in seine nets, packing the fish in ice, and loading them on trains due in far-away cities.
